Philomena (Ripepi) Torrisi

Philomena (Ripepi) Torrisi, 92, of Amsterdam, New York passed away peacefully Monday, October 29, 2018. She was born November 28, 1925 in Amsterdam, New York a daughter of the Late Carmelo and Genoeffa “Jennie” Ripepi. She attended local schools and was lifelong area resident. Mrs. Torrisi first worked for the Bigelow -Sanford Carpet Company. For many years, she was a Floor Lady at Montco Manufacturing until its closing. Lastly, she was an Inspector at Amsterdam Coat before retiring. Philomena was a devoted member of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel and its Rosary Society. Currently, she was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Columbiettes, Order Sons of Italy in America and St. Michael’s Seniors. She supported all the organizations enthusiastically. Phil was extremely social. She was an outstanding bowler in her day, enjoyed playing cards, especially poker and loved Bocce. She made countless trips to the Connecticut Casinos – Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods and organized weekly trips.On June 6, 1948 she was united in marriage to her beloved Vincent S. Torrisi. He died March 31, 2017. She was also predeceased by her siblings Thomas B. Ripepi, Angelina Ripepi, Nancy Pupa and Antoinette Wells. Survivors include her daughter Jo-Ann (George) Jendrzejczak, Amsterdam, New York; grandson Matthew E. Jendrzejczak, Phoenix, Arizona; sister Mary Tambasco, Amsterdam, New York; nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to  thank the Staff of C Wing at River Ridge Living Center and Scott Broderick for their loving care of Philomena.A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Jendrzejczak Funeral  Home 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, New York followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. at  Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, St. John Street with Rev. Lawrence J. Decker, Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson...
